Small Appliance RFQ Checklist for China Sourcing
A quotation for kettles, rice cookers, blenders, fans, irons or vacuum cleaners only becomes comparable when the electrical and documentation parameters are fixed in writing first. This checklist covers what to settle before you ask for a price. Novel Home Goods is a Yiwu-based sourcing agent and trading company, not a factory; our categories include small household electrical appliances, which we can source in China to a buyer's requirement.
1. The grid side: what China's own supply looks like
China's low-voltage single-phase supply is officially rated at 220 V / 50 Hz, with a permitted deviation at the user's supply point of plus 7 per cent and minus 10 per cent for a 220 V single-phase supply. This is China's grid convention — it is not a universal standard, and it should not be treated as a specification for your own market. Note the deviation band: a product tested only at exactly 220 V is not the same as one tested across the permitted range.
This matters because the factory will build and test to whatever you write down. If your enquiry says nothing about voltage and frequency, the supplier will reasonably assume the domestic Chinese convention above.
2. The standards side: status only
China has a current standard titled "Standard Voltages" — GB/T 156-2017, in force 1 May 2018. China also has a current safety standard for household and similar electrical appliances, GB/T 4706.1-2024, effective 1 August 2026. The national standards public system records both as adopting international (ISO/IEC) standards.
Two cautions on how to use this. First, these are Chinese national standards; their existence tells you what the Chinese framework looks like, not what your destination market requires. Second, adoption of an international standard is recorded as a status — it is not a statement that any particular product, or any particular clause, is equivalent to an IEC requirement. Do not ask a supplier to confirm equivalence on the strength of a standard number alone.
3. The fields to fix in writing
Before a quotation means anything, put these in the enquiry document and ask the supplier to confirm each one back in writing.
Electrical parameters
- Destination and point of use — country, and whether the unit is for household, commercial or outdoor use.
- Rated voltage and frequency — the exact figures you require for that destination.
- Rated power or current — stated as a value, not a range described in words.
- Single-voltage or wide-voltage — a fixed-voltage build and a wide-voltage build are different products with different cost structures.
- Plug or connection type — the physical plug, and the power cord specification.
Documentation and packaging
- Label and manual language — which languages must appear on the rating label and in the manual.
- Packing and carton marks — retail pack format, carton configuration and the marks you need printed.
- Who carries the safety and certification duty in the destination market — name the responsible party explicitly, because this is where most disputes begin.
4. Who does what — and where we sit
The manufacturer is responsible for design, testing and declarations, and certificates are issued by accredited bodies to the manufacturer or its authorised representative. Product certification such as CE, CB or SASO/G-Mark is held by the manufacturer; we hold no small appliance certification, issue no declaration of conformity, and do not act on behalf of the manufacturer.
What we do is check supplier documents against the buyer's requirements — including electrical parameters, plug and power cord type, and accompanying documents and labels. Certificates and test reports are available on request, verified as the documents our partner factories provide.
If the goods you are comparing include cleaning or floor-care items, the same parameter discipline applies to a Handheld Wet and Dry Vacuum 620 with Mop and Mite Brush or a Robot Vacuum Mop with App Control. For kitchen categories, a MY-0808 0.8L Electric Kettle with Water Window is a useful reference point when you are writing a specification sheet: the model reference, capacity and build details belong in the document, not in a chat message.
Confirm the counterparty before you confirm the specification
Two official channels let you check a Chinese supplier's registered identity yourself. The national enterprise credit information publicity system, run under the State Council's Interim Regulations on Enterprise Information Publicity (promulgated 7 August 2014), publishes registration and filing information, annual reports, administrative penalties and abnormal-operation status; you can search by company name or unified social credit code. Separately, under the Customs credit management measures (GACC Order No. 282, promulgated 13 January 2026, effective 1 April 2026), customs enterprise credit grades are published, and Advanced Certified Enterprises and Certified Enterprises are China's Authorised Economic Operators (AEO).
5. What a quotation from us does not include
Being explicit about scope prevents mismatched expectations later.
- No price, cost, margin or commission figure is quoted in this article; pricing comes with your written specification.
- We do not provide freight forwarding: no booking or booking on your behalf, no transport documents issued, no freight collected, no customs brokerage, no consolidation warehousing, and no DDP. We prepare export documents on an FOB Yiwu basis and work with the freight forwarder you appoint. Freight rates and transit times should be asked of your own forwarder.
- No delivery-time promises are made here.
- We do not provide visa or invitation-letter assistance.
One point on the visa side, because it affects travel planning: China's unilateral visa-free policy applies to ordinary passport holders travelling for business, tourism, family visits, exchange visits or transit for no more than 30 days, and those who do not meet the conditions still need a visa before entry. The 30-day unilateral visa-free arrangement covers 11 countries — the four GCC states of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain, and the five South American countries of Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Uruguay, plus the United Arab Emirates and Qatar under mutual visa-exemption agreements. No African country is on that list, and no African country is on the 240-hour transit visa-free list either; buyers from African markets normally travel on a business (M) visa, with the invitation letter usually issued by their Chinese supplier or partner — not by us.
6. A practical sequence
- Write the specification document using the fields in section 3.
- Ask the supplier to confirm each field back in writing, item by item.
- Request the certificates and test reports the manufacturer holds, and check them against your destination requirements.
- Verify the supplier's registered identity through the official channels above.
- Only then compare quotations — because at that point you are comparing the same product.
If you would like to walk through a specification before you commit to an enquiry, you can book a live video call to see goods and packing on camera, at the market, in our warehouse or at a partner factory; calls are by appointment, so send your viewing list in advance. Visits to Yiwu are also by appointment.
Contact us with your draft specification or your target category list, and we will come back with a quotation based on what you have fixed in writing — or arrange a visit to Yiwu so you can review samples and packing in person.
