Importers sourcing cordless power tools for the Middle East, Africa and South America ask the same question at quotation stage: should the carton carry 5-cell or 10-cell batteries? The answer changes runtime, unit weight, carton gross weight and your landed cost per set. This post sets out what we can state factually about our 21V range, and where we do not publish figures.
What "cell count" means in practice
In our range, the 21V tools share one battery platform. The chainsaw, lawn mower, pressure washer, hedge trimmer and pruning shears all run on the same 21V pack format. What changes between a 5-cell and a 10-cell pack is how much energy the pack stores, and therefore how long the tool runs before you swap or recharge.
A 10-cell pack contains twice as many cells as a 5-cell pack in the same platform. In practical terms that means more runtime per charge, more weight in the hand, and a higher unit cost. We do not publish capacity in mAh for these packs, and we would rather say that plainly than quote a number you cannot verify against the goods you receive. If you need mAh figures for a specific SKU, request them against that SKU and we will confirm what is actually printed on the pack.
One point worth repeating to your own customers: because the platform is shared, a buyer who owns one 21V tool can add another bare tool later and use the packs already in their garage. That is a selling argument in markets where replacement batteries are hard to source locally.
Runtime: the numbers we actually publish
These are the runtime figures we publish for the three tools where we have them. They are approximate, measured per charge, and they vary with load, material and operator technique. Treat them as planning figures for stock decisions, not as guarantees.

Two observations from the table. First, doubling cell count does not always double runtime in the field: the lawn mower moves from roughly 30 to roughly 50 minutes, not to 60, because the 850W motor draws harder under load. Second, the pressure washer has the shortest window on both packs. If your market uses a pressure washer for a full car wash or a driveway, a 5-cell pack will feel short and the buyer will notice.

The trade-offs buyers forget
Weight. A 10-cell pack is heavier than a 5-cell pack. On a chainsaw held at chest height, or a pressure washer carried around a vehicle, that difference is felt by the end user. In markets where the tool is used by an older household user for light garden work, a lighter 5-cell configuration is often the easier sell.
Charging time. We do not publish charging times for these packs, so we will not estimate them here. If charging time is a deciding factor for your market, ask us for the figure against the specific charger and pack combination you intend to order, and confirm it before you print anything on the box.
Carton gross weight. This is the cost line importers most often overlook. A 10-cell pack adds weight to every set, which raises carton gross weight, which raises freight cost per unit on sea and air shipments alike. On a full container the difference is measurable. Ask for the carton gross weight of the exact configuration you are quoting before you compare suppliers on unit price alone.
Unit cost. A bigger pack contains more cells, so it costs more. A 10-cell set carries a higher unit cost than a 5-cell set of the same tool. If your retail price point is fixed by the market, the cell count is one of the few variables you can move to protect margin.
Matching capacity to your market
There is no single correct answer, because the right pack depends on who uses the tool.
For a light household and garden market — trimming a small lawn, cutting a few branches, washing one car — the 5-cell pack is usually the better fit. Runtime is adequate for the task, the tool is lighter, the carton is lighter, and the landed cost is lower. This is the configuration that competes on price in price-sensitive retail channels.
For commercial and landscaping users — contractors, grounds maintenance, car wash operators — the 10-cell pack is the practical choice. A 40-minute chainsaw window and a 50-minute mower window cover more work per charge, which matters when labour is paid by the hour. These buyers are less sensitive to unit price and more sensitive to downtime.
A common approach for importers serving both segments is to stock the same tool in two configurations: a 5-cell set for retail shelves and a 10-cell set for the professional channel. Because the platform is shared, you are not adding a second battery system to your catalogue.
